Inclusive Taekwon-Do
Portugal • Seixal
Some journeys begin with a kick and a punch. Others begin with purpose.
For Nuno Miguel Penteado Jorge Coelho, Taekwon-Do began as a personal challenge — a way to grow stronger, more disciplined, and more focused.
But over time, it became something much deeper. It became a philosophy for life.
Through years of training, teaching, and community leadership at
Raphael Taekwondo in Seixal, Portugal, one truth became clear:
Taekwon-Do is not just physical training — it is a tool for character, confidence, and belonging.
The discipline. The respect. The perseverance. The indomitable spirit.
These values don’t stay inside the dojang — they shape how we live, lead, and support others every day.
Inclusion is not lowering standards — it’s raising our coaching
What truly shaped Raphael’s journey was inclusion.
Seeing how Taekwon-Do can positively impact individuals of all abilities — including those requiring additional support —
revealed the real power of martial arts.
Inclusion is not about lowering standards. It is about adapting methodologies, understanding individual needs, and recognising that progress looks different for everyone.
Inclusion is about dignity, opportunity, and belonging.
The impact of Inclusive Taekwon-Do
With thoughtful planning, structured training cycles, and clear objectives, Taekwon-Do can be tailored safely and effectively while maintaining technical integrity.
The results are powerful:
- More confidence and self-belief
- Improved coordination, balance, and motor skills
- Better emotional regulation and resilience
- Stronger social connection and community participation
- Family reassurance, support, and shared achievement
Why IITA?
This belief led Mestre Raphael Fonseca to join the
International Inclusive Taekwon-Do Association (IITA) — a global network dedicated to making martial arts accessible for all.
From Seixal, Portugal, Nuno Miguel Penteado Jorge Coelho vision is clear:
Inclusive Taekwon-Do shouldn’t be separate. It should be standard.
