The International Inclusive Taekwon-Do Association (IITA) continues to expand its reach across the globe, welcoming new leaders and advocates for inclusion. One of the newest voices joining this mission is SabumNim Amanuel Tesfa Teshome from Ethiopia—an international instructor and trainer with a powerful purpose.
While Ethiopia has yet to participate in IITA events, Sabum Amanuel is determined to change that. His passion for working with people with disabilities stems from the reality he witnesses every day: many disabled individuals in his community still face barriers to equal participation in sport. He recognizes the love these athletes have for Taekwon-Do and believes they deserve the opportunity to train, grow, and thrive alongside others.
> “Since there are many disabled people in our country and in my area, it is appropriate to train them together, as they cannot participate equally with able-bodied athletes. I want them to keep going and never give up on the sport they love,” Amanuel explains.
In his club, athletes with all types of disabilities are already training—proving that inclusion is not only possible, but essential. One moment that deeply moved him was receiving a heartfelt gift from one of his disabled students, an unforgettable experience that deepened his sense of compassion and strengthened his commitment to inclusive instruction.
Until recently, Ethiopia had no support mechanisms through the national federation for athletes with disabilities. But since being introduced to IITA through social media, Sabum Amanuel took bold steps forward. He presented IITA’s mission to the Ethiopian Sports Federation, who have now promised support for his initiative.
> “I am in the process of introducing Inclusive Taekwon-Do in my country. IITA has given me the tools and direction I needed. My goal is to gather athletes with disabilities across Ethiopia, train them under the IITA banner, and help them live a happy, empowered life.”
His vision is ambitious yet rooted in compassion—he hopes to see Ethiopian athletes participating in local and international competitions and IITA seminars. What truly inspired Amanuel to join IITA was its unwavering care and practical support for people with disabilities.
Beyond Taekwon-Do, Sabum Amanuel’s impact goes even further. He actively supports economically disadvantaged athletes by helping them access education and simple jobs, offering hope beyond the dojang.

As he begins his journey with IITA, Sabum Amanuel also welcomes collaboration with other member countries to strengthen the global network of Inclusive Taekwon-Do.
His story is one of commitment, kindness, and action—demonstrating that when inclusion leads, change follows. IITA proudly supports Sabum Amanuel Tesfa Teshome in building a more inclusive future for Ethiopian Taekwon-Do and beyond.
